Lake Thoreau Environmental Center

Lake Thoreau Environmental Center is composed of two sections of property: the Eubanks Preserve and the Longleaf Preserve. The Eubanks Preserve offers a 1.5 mile trail around Lake Thoreau. The Longleaf Preserve is home to the The Golden Eagle Trail Complex. The trails were built by and are maintained by The Hub City Mountain Biking Community. Access to these trails is granted by The Department of Biological Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Please note that several sections of both properties are closed to the public. These areas are only accessible by Lake Thoreau staff and those with research approved by the Lake Thoreau Committee. All trails that should not be accessed are marked with signs noting ‘Sensitive Research Zone’. Please do not enter these zones, as active research is a continuing component of Lake Thoreau, and entering may disrupt a critical program.

Hours: Eubanks Preserve is only open on the weekend with limited hours and may be closed at times for special events. Call before visiting.

Length: 1.5 miles
