The University of Mississippi Museum is a museum owned and operated by the University of Mississippi in Oxford. The museum is designed to appeal to both a popular and scholarly audience, with a collection that emphasizes objects of regional interest.

Kid-friendly Features: Stroller-friendly, free admission, kids programs, Bailey Woods Walking Trail entrance point

Kid-friendly Programs:

Buie Babies
In the Museum’s free stroller tour program, families with children ages 0-2 are able to experience the Museum for the first time.
Mini Masters
In partnership with YAC, Mini Masters for toddlers and a parent is offered twice each month, introducing art as well as working on fine motor skills. The Museum also offers a Mini Masters week-long summer camp.
Passport to Art
For a per-child cost, day cares operating in the summers enrich their artistic and cultural programming by bringing students to the Museum for 8 weeks of art projects inspired by current exhibits (one session per week).
Family Activity Days
Usually held 2-3 times per semester, these free Saturday workshops encourage parents, grandparents, and children to work together to create art inspired by current exhibitions and seasonal themes. The Museum also offers an annual Let’s Move! Family Day on the Bailey’s Woods Trail.
Tours, Activities, and Traveling Trunks
Preschools, libraries, and MMO groups can arrange free museum tours, low-cost activities, and outreach programming specifically geared toward early childhood development.
Art Zone
Art Zone is a 12-week afterschool program for children in grades K-6 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Each day, students either visit the galleries or see rarely-seen objects from the Museum’s collections to inspire artistic responses, culminating with a reception and exhibit.
Summer Camps
These week-long, themed summer camps allow children to travel back in time to explore ancient civilizations, create art using a variety of mediums, explore nature, and create their own masterpieces.
Milkshake Mash-Ups
In Museum’s program for tweens and teens, students blend two artists into one project in these monthly, free after school workshops.
Horizons Summer Program
Horizons students experience the Museum through interactive art projects for 6 weeks each summer. Horizons is an academic enrichment program that provides long-term engagement to low-income public school students.
